Social Work Education in India: Discussions on Indigenisation

Abstract


This article maps the brief journey of social work education in India, through its Euro-
centric influences, development of specialisations and newer emerging areas. Specifi-
cally the idea is to look at the current and dominant trend of indigenisation and decoloni-
sation of the social work profession in India—particularly its theoretical underpinnings,
contours and form in practice. The focus is that decolonising praxis is the way forward
for social work education in India.
