Psychosocial Group Intervention for Tobacco Cessation among Institutionalised Adolescents: An Experiment in the Indian Context

Jacquleen Joseph, Dorothy Perpetua Rekha

Abstract

This report highlights the psychosocial group intervention programme with a group
of twelve adolescents from an institution for the rehabilitation of ragpickers. The pro-
gramme addresses key issues of tobacco cessation, taking into due consideration the
developmental and environmental factors which impinge on recovery and holistic de-

the outcome, challenges and limitations to facilitate replication by professionals working
in the field of therapeutic interventions. The results are promising when one considers
the inherent challenges in the nature of the group and the substance used.
